Why I Became a realtor®

How did I get into real estate? Well, that’s kind of a long story.

I was working at a large real estate brokerage while studying Commerce at Saint Mary’s University, I started at the front desk and moved into the Accounting Assistant position after a few months. I had a fantastic boss and I eventually learned the entire back office process - I probably know more about house deposits and trust accounts than any other agent in HRM.

Eventually, I realized that the 9-5 routine wasn’t what I wanted forever - more importantly, I knew that I wanted to grow a business of my own. I loved the real estate industry and I didn’t want to leave it completely. I had built so many relationships and learned so much. So, I decided to become a self-employed agent assistant. This meant that I was working for multiple agents, doing their paperwork behind the scenes. This is also when I started helping agents with their social media and creating content for them. This is when I started to see myself becoming an agent, after assisting for a while I just started to get it. I saw how the deals came together, I knew more people in the industry, I understood what went on in the background, and I was ready to take the leap.

I studied, and passed the exam on my first try. I immediately knew that I wanted to invest in my media and marketing, more than any agent normally would (especially when starting out). I had lots of ideas for how I could market properties, and I had fun learning and creating. That investment of equipment and time has allowed me to offer in-house services to my clients and to help other agents with their media creation.

I am very grateful for my journey to becoming to agent that I am today and for all of the mentors and friends that I’ve gained - and I’m proud of the service that I offer to clients.
